Abstract

This article examines the meaning and use of the metaphor based on the word “heart” in English and Uzbek. Metaphorical expressions related to the word “heart” in English and their alternatives in Uzbek are analyzed. The study mainly aims to show the similarities and differences between the two languages through the conceptual metaphors formed by these metaphorical expressions and the ways of understanding and representing them. It also examines the role of human body experiences in forming and explaining the meaning of the metaphor based on the word “heart”. The results show that the understanding and manifestation of the studied metaphors differ depending on the linguistic expressions used and the conceptual metaphors they create. However, the results confirm that there is only one general way to conceptualize the bodily human experience through metaphor.
