The article focuses on the criteria for classifying jokes and their classification in the subject and essence
of the jokes of the Uzbek and American peoples, focusing on the essence and content of the events expressed in
the text of the joke, their subject scope. Also, the semantic features of jokes about political figures, related to the
activities of professionals, and about morality and immorality, in relation to the essence, theme and description of
the activities of the main character of modern jokes, are noted.
