Abstract

This article examines menacing speech acts, or speech acts that threaten or warn in communication, from a linguopragmatic perspective. Building on the theories of speech acts by J.L. Austin and J.R. Searle, the study focuses on the illocutionary and perlocutionary properties of menacing speech acts. These acts are analyzed in terms of their linguistic forms, their functions in communication, and the psychological and social consequences they trigger. The research demonstrates that menacing speech acts can influence social relations by imposing power dynamics, manipulating behavior, or issuing warnings. The findings suggest that the interpretation and effectiveness of these speech acts depend on context, including cultural factors, speaker intentions, and listener perceptions. The article concludes with recommendations for further research into how menacing speech acts function in different communicative settings and cultures.
