The article reflects on the activation of proper nouns in texts as nicknames. In addition to denotative meaning in fiction, anthroponyms also have connotative sense fragments. This meaning can receive emotional, evaluative, historical and aesthetic manifestations. The article also advances the conclusion that the emergence of nicknames as a permanent representative of the anthroponym system goes differently in different functional styles.
