The article examines the reasons for the strengthening of religion during the Timurid period and the subsequent dynasties on the basis of the theory of “periodicity.” It also reveals the factors behind the rise and decline of the Timurid dynasty, the causes and consequences of the strengthening of local authorities, and, in particular, the reasons for the increasing role of religious scholars (ulama) in society and state governance.
