GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SPORTS TERMS

Abstract

This article analyzes the linguistic and cultural characteristics of sports terminology in the Uzbek language. The study aims to identify the main mechanisms — transliteration, phonetic adaptation, and semantic translation — involved in the assimilation of sports terms. According to Cabré terminological systems play a crucial role in maintaining linguistic stability, while Wüster emphasized the need for international unification of technical languages. Building on the works of Khodjiev  and Rahimova the research explores how sports terminology has been integrated into Uzbek through descriptive and analytical methods. The phonetic and semantic adaptation of borrowed terms is examined alongside their usage in mass communication and public discourse. The results show that sports terminology is not merely a linguistic phenomenon but also a reflection of cultural globalization. As Alimov noted, in the context of global integration, the standardization of sports terminology and the creation of unified terminological frameworks are essential for the development of modern Uzbek linguistics.
