Abstract

The article examines the development of the procedural status of witnesses in Uzbekistan following independence within the framework of judicial and legal reforms. It analyzes the legal foundations, including the revised Constitution, the Criminal Procedure Code, and the Law “On the Protection of Victims, Witnesses, and Other Participants in Criminal Proceedings.” Special emphasis is placed on new guarantees of witness rights, the introduction of the “witness’s lawyer” institution, as well as challenges in the practical implementation of witness protection mechanisms and their compliance with international human rights standards.
