Abstract

This scientific article is dedicated to an in-depth analysis of the linguistic and cultural characteristics expressed through the names and symptoms of diseases in English and Uzbek proverbs. In these proverbs, diseases and their symptoms are interpreted not only as medical concepts but also as notions with profound symbolic and cultural meaning. The study explores how the selected proverbs reflect the people's perceptions of health, healing, difficulties, and human values through the names and symptoms of diseases. The article highlights the intrinsic connection between language and culture, analyzing how each culture’s attitude towards health and illness is reflected in their cultural values. The manifestation of folk culture and life philosophy through the names and symptoms of diseases serves as the primary focus of this research. The results of the study illustrate the similarities and, at the same time, the differences in the concepts of health and illness as expressed through proverbs in both English and Uzbek languages.
