Abstract

The article examines the significance of the course on the history of medicine in shaping the professional identity of medical students in Uzbekistan. It analyzes theoretical approaches to professional identity, the role of historical knowledge in developing ethical, professional, moral, and communicative competencies, as well as practical methods for integrating historical material into the educational process. A mixed-method study (survey, interviews, and content analysis of educational programs) was conducted at three medical universities. The results confirm that a systematic study of the history of medicine contributes to the development of professional values, critical thinking, and a sense of professional continuity. Based on the findings, methodological recommendations have been proposed for updating the course and incorporating active learning forms.
