Abstract

The article examines the linguocultural specificity of the verbalization of paralinguistic means—non-verbal elements such as gestures, facial expressions, postures, and intonation—in character portrait descriptions in English and Russian literature. Based on the material from John Galsworthy's novel The Man of Property (1906) and Fyodor Abramov's Brothers and Sisters (1958), the analysis reveals how these means reflect cultural values: individualism and restraint in English texts are contrasted with collectivism and emotional depth in Russian texts. The study highlights the role of paralanguage in enhancing artistic expressiveness and in developing intercultural understanding.
