AN INTERPRETATION OF THE LEXICAL-SEMANTIC FETURES AND TERMINOLOGICAL SYSTEM IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK DIPLOMATIC DISCOURSE

Abstract

This article provides a scientific analysis of the lexical-semantic features of English and Uzbek diplomatic discourse, as well as the principles underlying the formation of its terminological system. Diplomatic language represents a specific institutional genre in which linguistic units serve to ensure political neutrality, formal communication culture, calls for compromise, and communicative security. Based on the material of Chapter 2, the study examines the semantic field structure of diplomacy-related terms, their paradigmatic and syntagmatic relations, systems of synonymy and antonymy, the adaptation of international terminology to national discourse, and semantic inconsistencies that emerge in the process of translation. The distinctions in legal force between English terms such as agreement, accord, treaty, and memorandum and their Uzbek equivalents kelishuv, bitim, shartnoma, and memorandum are illustrated through examples. Furthermore, the study highlights the use of mitigating lexical devices in Uzbek diplomatic language, indirect attention-drawing strategies, and the linguopragmatic impact of culturally motivated diplomatic etiquette. The findings demonstrate how lexical-semantic differences in the diplomatic discourse of the two languages influence international relations, diplomatic translation, and the effectiveness of intercultural communication.
