Abstract

Numerous aspects of sport language are covered in the article. First, using well defined sport language, it is presented as a manifestation of sport as a human activity. Sport's cultural roots indicate that a variety of human needs gave rise to the sport's replacement, therapeutic, preventative, and recreational purposes. Sport language has its own unique lexicon, phraseology, morphology, and pronunciation. Its social functions and vocabulary make apparent allusions to military and wartime terminology and behavioral tendencies. Whether the language of contemporary sport can escape the brutalization process is still a crucial subject.
